Black/ Brown sundal is usually prepared during Vinayagar Chaturthi and Navarathri Festival. Onions are not used in this sundal, when preparing for these festivals. My mom prepares various Sundal varieties for Evening snacks very frequently. This kadalai sundal is a easy and healthy snack. Kids will enjoy this sundal. Yields: 3 servings

Ingredients:
Black/Brown Chana dal 
1 cup 
Onions chopped
1/2 cup
Oil
2 tbsp
Mustard
1/4 tsp
Green Chilly
1
Red chillies
2
Channa dal
1 tsp
Urad dal
1 tsp
Ginger finely chopped
1 tsp
Curry leaves
4
Shredded coconut
2 tbsp
Salt
Coriander Leaves
For Garnishing

Instructions:
  • Soak chana over night and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles till it turns soft. strain extra water. (Use the water while preparing Kuzhambu)

  • Heat oil in the pan and add mustard, red chilly and curry leaves.When mustard splutter, add channa dal,urad dal and Ginger. Fry till chana dal turns golden colour. Add chopped onions, green chilly cut lengthwise and fry it till they turn translucent.

  • Add cooked channa and salt. Fry for a min. Switch off the stove. Add shredded coconut and coriander leaves.

Tips:
Avoid onions and follow remaining steps, when cooking for Vinayagar chaturthi and Navarathri Festivals.
Adjust chillies to your taste.
