Appalam / Papad is an Indian Version Cracker. In south India , it is served as a side dish to Rice. In North India, it is served with toppings and chutneys as an Appetizer or snacks. Kids always love appalams. Please check below for step-wise instructions and pictures for making Papad Fritters alias Appalam bajji.

Besan Flour / Gram Flour

Rice Flour

Asafoedita

1/4 tsp

Turmeric Powder

1/4 tsp

Chilli powder

2 tsp

Salt

Instructions:
- Whisk all the ingredients except appalam and prepare a thick smooth batter.Set the batter aside for about 10 minutes.
- Cut the appalam into 4 pieces.
- Heat enough oil to deep fry. Dip and coat the appalam slices with the batter. Drop these slices in oil and turn it with slotted spoon 2 to 3 times. deep fry till it turns golden brown. Remove using slotted spoon Drain the excess oil by placing it in a paper towel.
- Serve it with coconut chutney
Tips:
Adjust red chilli powder to your taste.
