Idli Upma

Idli Upma
Idli upma is a recipe prepared with leftover Idlis. Idli Upma is my all time favorite  So my mom usually make extra Idlis to make this Idli Upma. This is  a very easy and quick breakfast / tiffin. It can served as a evening snacks. No side dish is required for this Idli upma. Roasted peanuts and cashews can be added for garnishing to increase richness of this upma. Preparation Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins 
Ready In: 15 mins 
Yields: 2 Servings
Idli Upma

Onions chopped1/2 cup
Oil2 tbsp
Mustard1/4 tsp
Channa dal1/2 tsp
Urad dal1/2 tsp
Red chillies2
Ginger finely chopped1 tsp
Curry leaves4
Green Chillies2
Turmeric Powder1/2 tsp
Coriander Leaves2 stalks

  • Refrigerate Idlis for 2 hours before cooking. Smash the left over idly into small pieces.

  • Heat oil in the pan and add mustard. When  mustard splutter add urad dal, channa dal and red chillies. When channa dal turns golden colour, add chopped ginger and Green chillies. Add onions and fry till onions turn translucent.

  • Add turmeric powder and fry till raw smell goes off. Switch off the stove and add idli pieces and coriander leaves..

  • This upma can be garnished with roasted Cashews and Peanuts.
  • To get tangy taste, add 1 tsp of lemon juice.
  • Adjust green chillies to your taste.
