Oil-less Toor Dal

Toor dhal Gravy is served as a side dish to Rice. It is a very simple dish with no Oil and no frying. We usually call it as " cha-pappu". Relish this paruppu with Hot Rice and Ghee.  In Kongunadu, this paruppu is first served in South Indian meal.

Yields :                        4 Servings 


Cumin Seeds1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves4
Garlic chopped lengthwise2
Red Gram Dhal / Toor Dhal1/2 Cup

  • Wash Red Gram Dhal/Toor Dhal(Thuvaram paruppu) and  soak for 30 minutes. Pressure cook it for 4 or 5 whistles.

  • Mash Garlic with Potato Masher.

  • Add Salt, mashed garlic, cumin seeds and curry leaves to cooked toor dhal. Mix well.

  • Enjoy it with Hot Rice and Ghee.
