Beach Sundal | Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal

Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal
 Although I have stayed 2 years in Chennai, I have visited beach only 4-5 times but tasted this sundal everytime I visit beach. Thenga Manga pattani sundal is very famous in Chennai beaches. Thenga means Coconut, Manga means Raw Mango and Pattani means White Peas in Tamil Language. This Sundal is also known as Beach sundal.  When I prepared this sundal in home, it was a big hit.Please check below for step by step instructions and pictures for preparing Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal - Beach Sundal.




Soak Time: Over night ( 8-12 hours)
Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cook Time :10 mins
Yields : 3 Servings

Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal

Ingredients:
Table 1:
Oil
1 tbsp
Mustard
1/4 tsp
Curry leaves 
10
Red Chilly
1
Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp
Salt
White Peas / Pattani 
1 Cup

Table 2: To grind
Ginger chopped                   
1 tbsp   
Garlic chopped            
1 tbsp
Fennel seeds
1  tsp
Green chillies
2

Table 3: For Garnishing
Raw Mango chopped                   
1/4 Cup   
Onions chopped
1/4 Cup
Shredded coconut
2 tbsp
Coriander Leaves chopped
4 stalks

Instructions:
  • Wash and soak white peas overnight (minimum 8 hours). Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles by adding enough water and turmeric powder. Add salt and keep it ready.

  • Grind ginger, garlic, green chillies and fennel seeds(from table 2) by adding enough water into smooth paste.

  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add mustard and allow it to splutter. Add curry leaves and red chillies. Fry for a min.

  • Add the grind-ed paste and fry till raw smell goes off. Add cooked white peas / pattani. Fry for 2-3 mins and mix well. Adjust salt if needed.Remove from stove and transfer it to big bowl.

  • Before serving, mix raw mango pieces, shredded coconut, chopped onions and coriander leaves to cooked white peas sundal.

Tips:
Adjust green chillies to your taste.
If you don't like raw onions, fry it  along with red chillies and curry leaves.
