Red Bell Pepper Chutney
Bell pepper is known as Capsicum in India. Compared to green capsicum, red capsicum are rich in vitamins and nutrients. Vitamin C content in red bell pepper is twice that of green bell pepper.Red capsicum chutney can be quickly prepared within 30 mins. Red bell pepper is fried with spices and tomato. Ground to smooth paste and finally the chutney is tempered. This chutney goes well with Idli and Dosa. Red Capsicum Chutney

Table 1 : To Grind
Oil2 tsp
Cumin seeds | Seeragam1/2 tsp
Chana dal | Kadalai paruppu1 tsp
Urad dal | Ulutham paruppu1 tsp
Sesame seeds | Ellu1/2 tsp
Coriander seeds | Dhaniya1/2 tsp
Red chillies4
Curry leaves3-5
Garlic clove1
Tomato chopped1/2 Cup
Red Bell pepper2 Cups
SaltAs needed
Coriander leaves2 stalks
Roasted peanuts1 tbsp

Table 2: For Tempering
1 tbsp
1/4 tsp
Red chilly
Curry Leaves
Urad dal
1/2 tsp

  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal, sesame seeds, coriander seeds, red chillies, curry leaves and fry till chana dal turns golden colour. Add garlic clove and fry till raw smell goes off.

  •  Add tomato and fry till they turn mushy. Add red bell pepper,salt, turmeric powder and fry for 3-4 mins till red bell pepper is cooked.

  • Switch off the stove, add coriander leaves and roasted peanuts. Allow the mixture to cool and grind it into smooth paste by adding enough water in blender.

  • Tempering: Heat oil in the pan and add mustard, red chilly, Curry leaves and urad dal. When Urad dal turns golden colour, add it to the ground mixture.

  3. Seen bell pepper chutney shared by many foodies as well. Seems a popular chutney yet I haven't made it before. Its thick and adore the loads of spices inside. Perfect to be paired with tosai but for me, as usual, it will be wonderful condiment.
