Fennel seeds | Sombu | 1 tsp |
Ginger chopped | 1 tsp |
Garlic chopped | 1 tsp |
Green chilly chopped | 1 |
Anistar | 1 |
Cloves | Krambu | 2 |
Cardamom | Yellakai | 1 |
Cinnamon stick | Pattai | 1 inch |

Oil | 1 tbsp |
Onions chopped | 1/2 Cup |
Soya chunks | 20 |
Basmati rice | 1 Cup |
Thin Coconut milk | 1 Cup |
Turmeric powder | 1/4 tsp |
Coriander powder | 1 tsp |
Chilli powder | 1.5 tsp |
Coriander Leaves | For Garnishing |
Instructions:
- Wash and soak basmati rice for 30 mins or as per instruction given in rice bag. Soak soya chunks in hot boiling water for 10 mins and close with a lid. After 10 mins, wash in cold water for 2-3 times. Strain and squeeze the extra water from soya chunks. Cut soya chunks into 2 pieces.
- Grind tomato, fennel seeds, ginger, garlic, green chilly and garam masala items into smooth paste by adding enough water in blender.
- Heat Oil in a pressure cooker. Add onions and fry till they turn translucent. Add ground mixture and fry till raw smell goes off.
- Add soya chunks and fry for a min. Add basmati rice and mix well.
- Add thin coconut milk, 1 cup of water, turmeric powder, coriander powder and chilli powder. Add coriander leaves. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.

Tips:
Adjust green chillies and chilli powder to your taste.
The type of soy chunk you have used and the one we get over here is different. While I am on the look out for the same as yours, I am loving the flavors. Its a great idea and of course rice dishes will always get me excited.
