Semiya Upma | Vermicelli Upma
Semiya upma is an easy and quick South Indian breakfast. Vermicelli is a kind of pasta. Sometimes my mom used to prepare this as an evening snack. It can be prepared within 15 mins. This is one of the easy recipe for newbies. Taste this semiya upma with sugar and banana for sweeter version. It can also be served with curd and pickle. Yields: 2 Servings
Vermicelli Upma

Ingredients:
Roasted Vermicelli1 Cup
Ginger1 inch
Oil2 tbsp
Mustard1/4 tsp
Red chillies2
Urad Dal1/2 tsp
Channa Dal1/2 tsp
Curry leaves4 to 6
Green Chillies2
Onions cut  lengthwise           1/2 cup
Salt
Coriander Leaves2 stalks

Instructions:
  • Heat 2 cups of water in a sauce pan. Heat oil in another thick bottomed pan and add mustard, red chillies, urad dal, channa dal. Fry till channa dal turns golden colour.Add onions,Green chillies, Ginger and curry leaves. Fry till onions turn translucent.

  • Now add 2 cups of hot water from sauce pan, coriander leaves and salt.

  • When water boils add roasted vermicelli and cook for few minutes till water is absorbed.

Tips:
If Roasted Vermicelli is not available, then roast ordinary vermicelli to golden colour in one tbsp of Oil before cooking.
Adjust green chillies to your taste.
Sometimes I use only red chilli based on the availability.
I usually buy bambino vermicelli.
