Vinayagar Chaturthi is celeberated on the birthday of Lord Vinayagar. This Ganesh chaturthi is celeberated all over India. Kozhukattai is a rice based dumpling and offered to Lord Ganesha on Vinayagar Chaturthi. On the day of Vinayagar Chaturthi, different type of Kozhukattai is offered to God and we eat it for Breakfast. Sometimes I prepare this Kara Kozhukattai as a evening snacks. I have simplified the process by using store bought rice flour. This instant , easy, quick spicy Kozhukattai doesn't need any side dish. Yields: 10-12 Nos
Kara Kozhukattai

Ingredients:
Table 1: To Temper
Oil2 tsp
Mustard1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds | Seeragam1/2 tsp
Channa dal | Kadala paruppu1 tsp
Urad dal | Ulunthu paruppu1 tsp
Curry Leaves chopped 3-4
Green chillies finely chopped 2
Ginger finely chopped 1 tsp
Coriander Leaves chopped 2 stalks

Table 2:
Rice Flour1 Cup
Oil1 tsp
Salt As needed
Hot waterAs needed

Instructions:
  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add mustard and allow it to splutter. When mustard splutter, add cumin seeds, channa dal and urad dal.

  • When channa dal turns golden colour, add finely chopped green chillies, chopped curry leaves and finely chopped ginger. Fry till raw smell goes off.Switch off the stove. Add finely chopped coriander leaves.

  • Take rice flour in a bowl. Add 1 tsp of Oil and salt.

  • Little by little add hot water and prepare a soft dough (similar to chappati dough)

  •  Add the tempered ingredients to the rice dough.

  •  Make small balls and shape the balls by pressing between your fingers as shown in picture below.

  • Heat Idli vessel. Apply oil on the idli plates. Steam cook the kozhukattai for 8-12 minutes.

Adjust green chillies and salt to your taste.

  3. love this savoury dumplings very much than the sweet one, Nithya for the laadi pav, u can skip baking soda and add yeast instead of baking soda, baking powder wont works prefect here,hope its clears ur doubt.
