Green Peas Masala rice is an easy and quick lunch box recipe. I prepare this masala rice when ever I have leftover cooked rice. I use frozen peas for this preparation. It will be ready in 20 mins. This makes an excellent lunch box recipe. It can also be prepared for potlucks and get-together. Yields: 3 Servings
Green Peas Masala Rice

Table 1: To Grind
Shredded Coconut1 tbsp
Ginger pieces1 tsp
Garlic pieces1 tsp
Green chillies2
Fennel seeds | Sombu1 tsp

Table 2:
Cooked Rice3 Cups
Oil2 tsp
Mustard1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves6 to 8
Onions Chopped1/2 Cup
Tomato Chopped1/2 Cup
Cooked Green Peas1/2 Cup
SaltAs needed
Turmeric powder1/4 tsp
Coriander powder1 tsp
Chilli powder1 tsp


  • Grind coconut, ginger, garlic, green chillies and fennel seeds into smooth paste by adding enough water.

  •  Heat Oil in a pan. Add mustard and allow it to splutter. Add curry leaves and fry for a min. Add onions and fry till they turn translucent.

  • Add tomatoes and fry till they turn mushy.

  • Add cooked green peas, ground mixture(from ingredients in table 1), salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder and chilli powder. Fry till raw smell goes off. Mix with cooked rice and garnish with coriander leaves. Add salt if needed.

Adjust green chilli and chilli powder to your taste.
Roasted cashews can be added for more flavor.
