Curry Leaves are widely used for seasoning in South Indian Cooking. Curry Leaves are rich in iron and is used in every day cooking. As kids won't eat curry leaves, I mix a pinch of this powder in their rice or dal before serving. Curry Leaves powder is a multi-purpose powder. It can be used to make Karuvepilai sadam, Podi Dosa.  It can also be taken as a side dish to Idli and Dosa by mixing with ghee or gingelly oil. Karuvepilai Podi Recipe

South Indian Iron rich Curry Leaves Powder. Rice, Idli, dosa side dish

Preparation Time : 5 mins | Cooking Time : 15 mins | Yields : 1 Cup

Ingredients:
Curry Leaves ( tightly packed) : 1 Cup
Coriander seeds : 1/4 Cup
Chana dal : 1/4 Cup
Urad dal : 1/4 Cup
Coconut pieces or shredded coconut : 2 tbsp
Red chillies : 2 or 3
Pepper : 1 tsp
Tamarind : 1/4 Lemon size
Salt : As needed

Instructions:
1.Dry roast coriander seeds, chana dal and urad dal till chana dal turns golden color in medium flame. In the same pan, add red chillies, pepper and tamarind and roast it for 2 mins. Transfer it to dry plate or bowl.

2.Dry roast curry leaves till it turns crisp in medium flame. Transfer it to  plate. Dry roast coconut pieces or shredded coconut. Transfer it to plate.

3. Allow the ingredients to cool and grind it into coarse powder along with salt. Once cool down completely, store it in clean air tight container for about a month. Use a clean spoon.

Tips:
Adjust red chillies to your taste.
store in an airtight container for about a month.
