Tomato Moong Dal

Tomato Moong Dal is a easy and healthy recipe. No need to soak the moong dal. Enjoy this pasi paruppu thakkali kootu as side dish to rice. This can also be taken as side dish to chappati / roti. Please check below for step-wise instructions and pictures for preparing easy tomato Moong dal

Ready in :                   25 mins
Yields :                        2 servings 

1 tbsp
1/4 tsp
Cumin Seeds
1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves
Red Chilly
Garlic Cloves chopped Lengthwise
Shallots / Onions Chopped
1/2 Cup
Tomato chopped
1/2 Cup
Turmeric Powder
1/4 tsp
Coriander Powder
1/2 tsp
Chilli Powder
1 tsp
Moong Dhal   
1/4 Cup   
Coriander Leaves
1 stalk

  • Wash Moong dhal. Pressure cook moong dhal and chopped tomato for 4 or 5 whistles.

  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil and add mustard seeds and Cumin seeds. 

  • When they splutter, add  curry leaves, chopped onion,red chilly and garlic. Fry till onions turn translucent.

  • Add 1/4 cup of water,cooked moong dal, salt, coriander leaves, turmeric powder,chilli powder and coriander powder.Fry it for 2-3 mins in medium flame.
Adjust chilli powder to your taste.
