Semiya Payasam

Semiya Payasam
One year ago,  my mom introduced semiya payasam to my kid. Since then I prepare it at-least once in a week.  He calls it as sweet noodles and loves it a lot. I usually skip adding cashews and raisins, as he doesn't like it. Instead I add cashew powder to his semiya sweet pudding. Today I prepared the normal semiya payasam which is a very common festival recipe in our houses. It is an easy and quick dessert. Please check below for step wise instructions and pictures for preparing Vermicelli Payasam.





Preparation Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins 
Ready In: 20 mins 
Yields: 3 Servings


Ingredients:
Semiya / Vermicelli           
1/2 Cup
1 tbsp
Sugar
1/2 Cup
Milk
2.5 Cups
Cardamom 
1
Cashews and Raisins
10 Each

Instructions:

  • Heat Ghee in a pan. Add cashews and cardamom. when cashews starts to turn golden colour, add raisins. Fry for 20 -30 secs till raisins become fluffy. Remove cashews, cardamom and raisins from pan.



  • In the same pan add vermicelli and fry till it turns golden colour. 



  • Add 2.5 cups of milk and allow it to boil. Check whether vermicelli is cooked. Once vermicelli is cooked, add sugar and cook for 2-3 mins. Remove from stove. Lastly garnish with roasted cashews, raisins and cardamom.



Tips:
Cardamom can be replaced with cardamom powder. It is optional to add cardamom.
Instead of adding 2.5 cups of  milk, we can add 1 cup milk and 1.5 cup water.
