Oats Khichdi | Oats Breakfast Recipe

Oats Khichdi
Oats is the only cereal rich in globulin. Oats helps to maintain blood sugar level and satisfies appetite. Oats is highly recommended for diabetic patients. Soluble fibres in oats reduces the risk of heat disease. Oats Khichdi  is prepared by cooking oats with mixed vegetables and spices. It makes an excellent healthy breakfast or tiffin.  No side dish is required for this khichdi. It tastes great with coconut chutney and Sambar. Yields:                        2 servings.


Oats Khichdi

Ingredients:
Quick oats
1 Cup
Cooked Veggies (Carrots and beans)  
1/2 cup
Ginger chopped finely
2 tsp
Garlic chopped finely
2 tsp
Oil
1 tbsp
Mustard
1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds
1/2 tsp
Urad Dal
1 tsp
Channa Dal
1 tsp
Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp
Curry leaves
3
Green Chillies
2
Onions chopped
1/2 Cup
Tomato chopped
1/4 Cup
Salt
Coriander Leaves
3 stalk

Instructions:
  • Dry roast oats for 2-3 mins in a pan. Remove from stove. Heat oil in the pan and add mustard, cumin seeds, urad dal and channa dal .

  • When channa dal turns golden colour, add curry leaves, green chillies, chopped ginger and garlic. Fry for 2 mins till raw smell goes off. Add onions and fry till they turn translucent.

  • Add tomato and fry till tomatoes  turn mushy. Add cooked vegetables( carrots and beans) and fry  for 2 mins. Add salt, turmeric powder.

  •  Add roasted oats and sprinkle some water. Cover it with lid and cook for 2-3 mins.

  • Remove from stove. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Tips:
  • Adjust chillies to your taste.
  • Green peas can also be added along with carrots and beans to this kichadi
  • Chopped ginger and garlic can be replaced with ginger garlic paste.
