Oats Rava Idli

Oats Rava Idli
Rava Idli is a spicy South Indian Breakfast prepared from Semolina | Rava | Sooji. I have modified the recipe by adding oats. The preparation is very similar to Rava Idli. Oats is the only cereal rich in globulin. Oats helps to maintain blood sugar level and satisfies appetite. Oats is highly recommended for diabetic patients. Soluble fibres in oats reduces the risk of heat disease. Please check below for step by step instructions and pictures for preparing South Indian Oats Rava Idli.

Ingredients:
Table 1:
Quick Oats1 Cup
Rava | Semolina | sooji1 Cup
CurdAs needed
Baking soda1/2 tsp
SaltAs needed
Grated carrot1/2 cup
Coriander leaves chopped2 stalks
Cashews10
Oil for greasing idli platesAs needed

Table 2: To Temper
Oil2 tsp
Mustard1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds | Seeragam1/2 tsp
Channa dal | Kadalai paruppu1 tsp
Urad dal | Ulunthu paruppu1 tsp
Green chillies finely chopped2
Curry Leaves3-5
Ginger finely chopped1 tsp
Onions chopped1/2 Cup
Asafoedita powderPinch

Instructions:

  • Dry roast oats for 2-3 mins till it is hot. Allow it to cool and powder it in mixie / blender.

  • Dry roast rava | semolina till it turns golden brown. Remove from Stove.

  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add mustard when it splutters, add cumin seeds, channa dal and urad dal. Fry till Channa dal turns golden colour. Add finely chopped green chillies, chopped curry leaves and finely chopped ginger. Fry till raw smell goes off.

  • Add onions and fry till they turn translucent. Add a pinch of Asafoedita powder and switch off the stove.

  • Take rava and grind-ed oats powder in a bowl. Add curd, salt, baking soda and prepare a thick batter.

  •  Add fried items from table 2, grated carrot and coriander leaves. Mix well.

  •  Heat water in Idli vessel. Grease idli plate with oil and place a cashew in the centre of idli plate as shown in picture below. Pour the batter in idli plate and cook for 10-12 mins in medium flame.

  • To check whether the idli is cooked, insert a tooth pick in the centre of idli. If it comes out clean, then the idli is cooked.

Tips:
Adjust green chillies to your taste.
