Ingredients:
Table 1:
Quick Oats | 1 Cup |
Rava | Semolina | sooji | 1 Cup |
Curd | As needed |
Baking soda | 1/2 tsp |
Salt | As needed |
Grated carrot | 1/2 cup |
Coriander leaves chopped | 2 stalks |
Cashews | 10 |
Oil for greasing idli plates | As needed |
Table 2: To Temper
Oil | 2 tsp |
Mustard | 1/4 tsp |
Cumin seeds | Seeragam | 1/2 tsp |
Channa dal | Kadalai paruppu | 1 tsp |
Urad dal | Ulunthu paruppu | 1 tsp |
Green chillies finely chopped | 2 |
Curry Leaves | 3-5 |
Ginger finely chopped | 1 tsp |
Onions chopped | 1/2 Cup |
Asafoedita powder | Pinch |
Instructions:
- Dry roast oats for 2-3 mins till it is hot. Allow it to cool and powder it in mixie / blender.
- Dry roast rava | semolina till it turns golden brown. Remove from Stove.
- Heat Oil in a pan. Add mustard when it splutters, add cumin seeds, channa dal and urad dal. Fry till Channa dal turns golden colour. Add finely chopped green chillies, chopped curry leaves and finely chopped ginger. Fry till raw smell goes off.
- Add onions and fry till they turn translucent. Add a pinch of Asafoedita powder and switch off the stove.
- Take rava and grind-ed oats powder in a bowl. Add curd, salt, baking soda and prepare a thick batter.
- Add fried items from table 2, grated carrot and coriander leaves. Mix well.
- Heat water in Idli vessel. Grease idli plate with oil and place a cashew in the centre of idli plate as shown in picture below. Pour the batter in idli plate and cook for 10-12 mins in medium flame.
- To check whether the idli is cooked, insert a tooth pick in the centre of idli. If it comes out clean, then the idli is cooked.
