Chana Dal | Kadalai paruppu | 1 tsp |
Curry leaves | 4 to 6 |
Red Chillies | 2 |
Green Chillies | 2 |
Ginger chopped | 1 tsp |
Onions chopped | 1/2 Cup |
Tomato chopped | 1/4 Cup |
Carrot and beans chopped | 1 Cup |
Turmeric powder | 1/4 tsp |
Salt | As needed |
Samba Ravai | Cracked wheat | 1 Cup |
Coriander leaves | For Garnishing |
Instructions:
- Heat oil in pressure cooker. Add mustard and allow it to splutter. Add chana dal, curry leaves, red chillies and green chillies. Fry till chana dal turns golden color. Add ginger and onions. Fry till onions turn translucent.
- Add tomatoes and fry till they turn mushy. Add vegetables of your choice. I have added carrot, beans. Add enough salt, turmeric powder and mix well.
- Add cracked wheat, water and mix well. Add coriander leaves and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles.
Tips:
The quantity of water depends on the size of cracked wheat. I usually add 3.5 cups of water for 1 cup of cracked wheat.
Adjust green chillies and red chillies to your taste.
That cracked wheat is one of those ingredients I have never used before. Yet it has brought a wonderful healthy breakfast. Yum to the healthy start up for the day.
