Whomever had lunch in Andhra mess would have tasted the lentil powder alias gun powder. I am not sure why it got the name gun powder. It is my hubby's favourite. He starts his lunch with this paruppu podi and ghee. It is also my kid's favourite and I used to prepare in small batches 15 days once. This paruppu podi can be taken as a side dish to rice along with ghee or sesame oil. Please check below for step wise instructions and pictures for paruppu podi - lentil powder.

Yields : 1 Cup
Ingredients:
Toor Dal - Thuvaram paruppu

1/2 Cup
|
Channa Dal - Kadalai paruppu
|
1/4 Cup
|
Yellow Moong Dal - Pasi paruppu
|
1/4 Cup
|
Cumin seeds
|
1.5 tsp
|
Black pepper
|
1 tsp
|
Garlic cloves
|
2-3
|
Red Chillies
|
3
|
Curry Leaves
|
6-8
|
Salt
|
As Required
|
Asafoetida powder
|
1/4 tsp
|
Instructions:
- Dry roast toor dal to golden brown colour. Similarly dry roast chana dal and moong dal separately to golden colour.
- Dry roast remaining ingredients except salt and allow it to cool.
- Once all the ingredients are cooled, blend it into a coarse powder in mixie by adding enough salt.
Adjust chillies and pepper powder to your taste. I have added less pepper and chillies keeping my kid in mind.
While grinding in mixie, check salt and adjust as needed.
Once the powder cools down, store it in clean air tight container.
