Ganesh chaturthi falls on September 9th in 2013. In South India, Kozhukattai is offered to Lord Ganesha on this auspicious day. I have already posted Kara Kozhukattai, Sweet Kozhukattai. Oats is the only cereal rich in globulin. Oats helps to maintain blood sugar level and satisfies appetite. Oats is highly recommended for diabetic patients. Yields: 10-12 Nos
Oats Kozhukattai

Ingredients:
Table 1:
Quick Oats1 Cup
SaltAs needed
Coriander leaves chopped2 stalks
Oil for greasing idli platesAs needed

Table 2: To Temper
Oil2 tsp
Mustard1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds | Seeragam1/2 tsp
Channa dal | Kadalai paruppu1 tsp
Urad dal | Ulunthu paruppu1 tsp
Green chillies finely chopped2
Curry Leaves3-5
Ginger finely chopped1 tsp


Instructions:
  • Dry roast oats for 2-3 mins till it is hot. Allow it to cool and powder it in mixie / blender. Transfer it bowl and keep it ready.

  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add mustard when it splutters, add cumin seeds, channa dal and urad dal. Fry till Channa dal turns golden colour. Add finely chopped green chillies, chopped curry leaves and finely chopped ginger. Fry till raw smell goes off.

  • Add tempered items to the grind-ed oats powder in a bowl. Add salt, chopped coriander leaves and prepare a thick dough (similar to chappati dough). Make small balls and shape the balls by pressing between your fingers as shown in picture below.

  •  Heat Idli pan. Grease Idli plates with Oil. Steam cook Kozhukattai for 8-12 minutes.

Tips:
Adjust green chillies to your taste.
Raosted cashews can be added to give a rich flavour.
