Coconut Thogayal
Thogayal or Thuvaiyal is a simple coarse ground paste prepared in South India. It is served with rice for Lunch. During Lazy days, I prepare a thogayal, rasam and a dry vegetable curry. I have already posted Mint Thogayal, Raw Mango Thogayal. Coconut Thogayal is easy to prepare and will be ready in 15 mins. Last week I prepared this thogayal as a side dish to Coconut sevai. Cook Time: 5 mins
Yields: 2 Servings
Coconut Thogayal | Thengai Thuvaiyal

Ingredients:
Oil2 tsp
Cumin seeds | Seeragam1 tsp
Chana dal | Kadalai paruppu1 tsp
Urad dal | Ulutham paruppu1 tsp
Curry leaves6 to 8
Red chillies2
Black pepper | Milagu1 tsp
Shredded coconut1/2 Cup
Tamarindsmall piece
SaltAs needed

Instructions:

  • Heat Oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and allow it to splutter. Add chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves. Fry till chana dal turns golden color. Add red chillies and black pepper.

  • Add shredded coconut and fry for a min. Switch off the stove and add tamarind, salt. Grind it into coarse paste by adding little water.

Tips:
Adjust black pepper and red chillies to your taste.

  1. Nice and I think by now you know that I am a big fan of thuvaiyal though the number of times I make it is minimal. Absolutely agreed that its perfect to be paired with rice, sambar or rasam.
