Chana Dal Halwa

Chana Dal Burfi / Halwa is a traditional North Indian sweet cooked during festival seasons. Ingredients:
Chana Dal | Kadala Paruppu            
1/2 Cup
1/2 Cup
Sugar
1/4 Cup
Whole Milk
1.25 Cups
Cardamom Powder 
Pinch
chopped Nuts of your choice
(Almond, Cashews, Raisins) 
1/4 Cup

Instructions:
  • Wash and soak chana dal for 3 hours. Pressure cook for 2 whistles.

  •  Filter extra water. Mash the dal coarsely using spoon.
  • Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed pan. Add dal to ghee. Cook till you get the fragrant smell and ghee separates from the pan.



  • Add 1/2 Cup of Milk and continuously stir till it dries out. Repeat the previous step again twice till all the milk is utilized. Add cardamom powder and sugar.Cook till sugar is dissolved.

  • check the sweetness. If needed, add more sugar and chopped nuts. Mix well. Serve hot at room temperature.Garnish with chopped nuts before serving.

  • To cut into desired shapes, grease a plate with ghee.Add this halwa and allow it to cool for 20 minutes. Cut into desired shapes.


Tips:
Allow the sweet to cool down.  The sweet can be stored in fridge for a week.
